Modern Vintage Jewelry

JewelryJan Correll4 Comments

Hi Friends,

I believe that jewelry plays a big part in a woman's unique style and feel that each piece has a history, especially when given as gifts.  To that end, I own a lot of jewelry and give a lot as gifts.  A few years back, I found a piece of jewelry by John Wind that remains one of my favorites today; a Sorority Gal Cotton Pearl Initial Bracelet in Gold. The piece was inspired by Grace Kelly in Rear Window.  Love it!!

Through this post, I would like to introduce you to John Wind and his most recent collection inspired from the past.  Each piece takes on a personal meaning and a little soul of its own.  I love the fact that the line is unique, collectible and high quality. In fact, they could and should be handed down for generations!   My initial charm bracelet is still as beautiful as the first day I wore it!

John started as an artisan making chunky collage brooches and watch bracelets made of linked watch heads!   And due to demand for the line expanded into the gift world to deliver a unique jewelry line!

Wind's designs have been featured in many books and magazines; including Harpers Bazaar, InStyle, Oprah and the New York Times.  You can purchase the full line on their website or it is sold in a number of boutiques around the world!

I have styled two very different outfits, one from the closet and the other new.  I feel this jewelry complimented, enhanced and completed these looks.  In the first, I am wearing a Magaschoni gold coat purchased a few years back and #ftc (from the closet) with Free People frayed jeans and gold sandals, by BCBGMAXAZRIA again #ftc. And of course, my John Wind jewelry, featured in the gallery below.)  The second look is a fun, casual dress by Sundays from a local boutique in Charlotte called Luxe Angel.  Love the rose gold zipper and pockets ( can you tell I am a fan.) The dress is actually of gift for someone close to me so....sssshhhhh!! Such a great place to shop!!  The black sandals are Vince Camuto, from Nordstrom Rack.

EILEEN FISHER, a powerful brand

Jan CorrellComment
Words have the power to change us

Hi dear friends,

Hope you are having a great week and that you and your loved ones or friends were unaffected by those crazy "hot messes",  Irma and Harvey.  Compassion is what is needed today for all those suffering as a result.  It is times like these when people pull together, and put differences aside to help others heal. It is so powerful to see,  kindness in action.

This post is about the Eileen Fisher brand and her fall campaign, Power in the Words of Women.  First, I will tell you that I have a few Eileen Fisher pieces.  They include a grey wool top and pencil skirt, that I wear repeatedly in the fall/winter and a linen dress that I recently featured on my Instagram feed.   Last month I  visited the EF store in Charlotte and was immediately taken with several pieces.  In fact, when chatting with the wonderful sales staff, I shared that I did not realize how modern her clothes were and now have a fresh perspective. I also learned that this high quality brand believes in adding key pieces to your wardrobe each season, and not starting over.  This makes so much sense!  During my visit, I tried on the most beautiful taupe dress,  and purchased the black jersey jumpsuit featured in this post. I love this jumpsuit, as it  is one of those pieces, I will wear again and again. BEWARE: you may get tired of seeing this, but I won't get tired of styling it so many different ways. It's perfect with flats, heels, traveling, dressing up or down.

Secondly, I want to share Eileen Fisher's fall campaign; Power in the Words of Women.   The designer's mission is to continue the empowerment of women and girls, and celebrates the women making an impact on the world and their power.  If you have not see the campaign, please check out a link to the video and stories here.  I also loved learning more about the brand here... including Eileen's 30 year plan, which encompasses so many of my beliefs; women empowerment and recycling.

I am wearing the Eileen Fisher Jersey Crop Wide Leg Jumpsuit... check out the pockets!!  The gold earrings are from J. Crew and the bracelet is my favorite, #ftjb (from the jewelry box). Shoe are Cole Haan.  This is a simple chic outfit.  Follow the the gallery for links (below.)

Last, I will be attending the Eileen Fisher Fall Collection at the Phillips Place store in Charlotte as their special invited host.  I am so honored and excited.  Please stop by the store anytime from 10-6 on Saturday, September 23.  I look forward to seeing everyone and hope you get to experience this amazing line like I have!

As always, thanks for reading.  Until next time...  XOXO.

Thoughts... for my younger self

Jan Correll2 Comments

Hi Friends,

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start. Our weekend was relaxing!  In fact, I even rested on the couch Sunday as I have been fighting something (tickle in the throat) all last week.  I tried so hard to take a nap but it did not work, as it never does! I envy people that are so relaxed and can rest whenever needed!  Good for them!

I met someone new recently, through a mutual friend.  She was great! Younger than myself but we shared so much in common and she is so chic!  What a wonderful experience, meeting new people! We had a great conversation, as she is also a fashion blogger!  One question she asked me that I pondered for a bit, was "what would you tell your younger self, today?"  I loved the question and the thought process it led me down.  I had not one answer but several!  I am sharing my list with you... and hope you enjoy it!  And as always am open to your thoughts!

1.  Be who you want to be... always: don't let anyone or anything define you or tell you who you should, or shouldn't be!

2.  Put yourself one else is going to!  And you have got to take care of yourself!  As women, we put everyone before us but we don't need to.

3.  Lighten up: relax and see the laughter and joy in everything.  Life is not serious.

4.  Only look for the good in others: look beyond differences and faults.

5.  Make your smile your signature:  it can make an average woman beautiful!

6.  Hold your head high, your posture will follow and do everything with confidence.

7.  Do some form of exercise everyday: it will make you mentally and physically stronger.

8.  Remember to re-invest in yourself and always stay current so that you are cool and relevant as you age!  Read, take classes, learn how to do something new and never stop growing!

9.  Don't say I'm sorry, unless you have hurt someone, lied or cheated.  That word is in many women's daily vocabulary and it does not need to be.

10.  Rely on your faith always... it will get you through anything!

My favorite quote is below:

“I have come to the conclusion that the most important element in human life is faith.

If God were to take away all His blessings, health, physical fitnes, wealth, intelligence, and leave me but one gift, I would ask for faith –- for with faith in Him, in His goodness, mercy, love for me, and belief in everlasting life, I believe I could suffer the loss of my other gifts and still be happy....”

— Rose Kennedy

In these pics, I am wearing a wonderful black and white checked dress from J.Jill!  I love it and plan to wear it all fall.  So get used to it!! :)  My sandals are Guess.  My necklace was found in an antique store and is solid dark blue turquoise.  A bit on the heavy side but I love it!  My jewelry is Roberto Coin (silver), and David Yurman (silver links) and a pretty white turquoise cuff (compliments of my daughter).

These photos  were taken in a small Texas town called New Braunfels in between San Antonio and Austin.  The Landmark is a  restored historic building on the Comal Canal.   Photo credit to Katherine Hannah Conlee.

SUPER SHOPPING (groceries)

Jan Correll2 Comments

Hi Friends,

It's Sunday and I hope it's been a great weekend so far you and yours!  Ours has been great, although we wore ourselves out last night... hanging with our kids!  Don't get me wrong, we had a blast but the night went on, and on!  So now here it is Sunday and time to get the chores done, which includes groceries for the week ahead.  Yes, so mundane, and a waste of time but sometimes enjoyable when you are not in a rush... or tired.

Interesting is the fact that my son and his wife do their grocery shopping online.  Both working professionals, they plan their menu for the week and order and pick up twice a week.  Rarely are they at the grocery store, except for emergencies (which happens with 2 small children.) They save money, by not impulse buying and feel they stay focused on eating healthier with all the planning.

Although the majority of grocery shopping is done the traditional way, this is expected to change greatly in the next decade.  Very similar to the milkman in the past more and more retailers are delivering right to our door.  Yes, Gen Y or so called Millennials have embraced this due to their heavy tech reliance, but my feeling is we can learn a thing or two from them and free up additional time for more important things.  Additionally, we may reap savings benefits in both in our wallets and our waistlines.  It's never a bad idea to learn something new as a perennial!!  Let's keep on blooming and flourishing, even as we age.

In these pics, I am wearing a cute crochet swing dress from Anthropologie by Akemi + Kin.  It's on sale at a great price.  My sandals are gold Jack Rogers and my fab earrings are vintage Betsy Johnson FTC.

Would love to hear your experience with online grocery shopping.  If you have not tried it...  let me know your feedback.

Have a great week ahead and as always, thank you for reading!  XOXO

Enjoy the little things in life, because one day you will look back, and realize there were the big things

Hi Friends,

Hope everyone is having a great week and ready for the weekend ahead.  I am excited to be headed to Texas for a visit this week!  Will be loving on two grand boys and celebrating one's first birthday.  Can't wait!

I recently had 4 inches of silver hair cut off!  YIKES… when I looked down I about freaked.  My one request was to be able to pull it back for my workouts.  Well, my stylist definitely accomplished that but I would not call it a ponytail but rather a micro tail of some kind!  HA!  I do love the new cut but initially, it took some styling magic, but I think I have mastered it; with the exception of humid days (almost every day in Charlotte or HHI are humid!)

This picture was shot in Uptown Charlotte overlooking the city from one of my favorite restaurants.  The night was not anything important, but we felt it warranted celebrating: life’s little moments together! This fun drink is a spicy margarita, which is my favorite!!

I am wearing a DVF top in black silk.  It is piped in the prettiest bright yellow satin, which unfortunately you really cannot see once on but I love small details. The black slacks are Vince Camuto, Tahari sandals, a Ralph Lauren cross body, and last but not least, Chandelier earrings from J.Crew.  The bright yellow was a bit out of my comfort zone, but as always, wearing what I want and most importantly, with confidence!

Have you worn anything lately that put you out of your comfort zone?  Comment below.

Have a great week lovelies.

Until next time and as always… thank you for reading!! XXOO

Rose', Blush and Lace

FashionJan Correll4 Comments

Happy Wednesday lovely friends,

Tell me that you are having a great week so far!  I sure hope so. Mine has been productive and fun.   In fact, Mr. Silver and I found a new place (to us) that serves good wine  and craft beer, not too far from our house.  We enjoy having a drink together to wind down the day!  This little place was the perfect spot.  Not the original plan for a photo shoot, but hey, Que Sera, Sera!

With all the hubbub around Rose' or blush wine, I have jumped back on the bandwagon (as I used to love it years ago), pun intended.  I find it light and easy to sip when the temperatures are hot or year round, depending on your palate.  And if you have not tried a Frose', I would highly suggest it.  Here is a fun recipe, that is simple to make and quite refreshing.  Tip: I use stevia instead of sugar.

One of my dear friends recently gifted me this beautiful blush top from Zara Woman.  She had bought it in Italy and never had the chance to wear it.  Being the friend that she is, she knew it was my style!  So sweet because I fell in love with it.  In fact the blush color is so on trend!!  Thank you again, MJ!! I am also wearing Free People Gummy high waist jeans, Shoes from Nanette Lepore, earrings from SUGARFIX by BaubleBar from Target and a cute little HOBO CrossBody clutch.

Sure hope your week continues to trend towards great and that you have fun plans for the weekend.  We will be caring for a set of the grands and are so looking forward to it!

As always, thank you for reading...cheers until next time! XXOO

Point of View

FashionJan CorrellComment
If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as your own.
— Henry Ford

Hi lovely friends, Hope your week is was great and that your upcoming weekend will be fantastic!! Last weekend was relaxing, this weekend not so much!

I love this quote by Henry Ford but find it is not always easy to do what it suggests, but I do agree with Henry and feel that most successful people can look at other's point of views.   Today, everyone including me (or so my son says)  has an opinion on everything.  We have so much information available to us at our finger tips all day long. We look up long enough to share our thoughts on what we have read or learned to socialize a bit. These opinions range from politics to sports, healthcare, education and the list goes on.  Recently I am seeing many articles  sharing what women over 50 should and should not wear.  In fact, I just read a Harpers Bazaar article which stated that as you get older to keep your animal urges confined to a skirt or a clutch. And that's all fine but in my opinion, if you find something you really like wear it!!  Even if it is an all over leopard print shirt dress.  With the likes of Iris, Carmen, Diane Keaton and Furstenberg, and many fashion sysmbols, we can and should wear what we want.  The key is to be true to yourself and confident about what you like.  It's not necessarily about what's in fashion, it's about what you love for you and your style.

Which leads me to this post.  First, I chose the location based on the fact that it is a triangular shaped building near downtown Charlotte.  I was standing in front of one of the three points.... actually making my point!! This fun leopard print shirt dress is from Chico's.  It is sold out on line but available in some stores and is a great price too!!  My bag (a gift from Mr. Silver last year) is a Louis Vuitton,  Pochette Modis and hard to find this year!  Theses black Ivanka Trump pumps are FTC and are a wardrobe staple.

In closing hope you all have a great Friday and weekend!   Be confident in what you wear.  Nobody else can or will be.

Until next time, thank you for reading!!

As far as I’m concerned, leopard is a neutral.

Island Time

Jan Correll1 Comment

Hi Friends,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!  We are as well and enjoyed time with family. Due to travel yesterday and today, I am a bit late with my post.  So here goes...

Does anybody else understand island time? I truly believe the phrase can be used as a verb and adjective at the same time and that there is something special about this phrase.   Whether it is a long island, a caribbean island or just an island off the coast...there is magic that happens once you hit the island. Time seems to slow down and deep breaths seem to come easier.

When we cross over the bridge to our island,  we can smell the sea air and time around us seems to slow down.

I hope you enjoy these pictures taken in Hilton Head near Coligney Beach on our island, HHI.

My Island Time tee as well as the pom pom earrings are from J.Crew.  Unfortunately, this everyone else love it and it is now sold out!  My vintage tulle skirt is from Bomdiggity Boutique in  Texas but I have posted similar styles on my gallery page.  My black strappy sandals are Coach and have great detail, similar are shown below.  My sunnies are Ray-Ban.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and wherever you are in the world, island or land... hope you can relax and live lie your on "island time!"

Until next time XOXO

Patriotic Spirit

Jan CorrellComment

Hello lovelies,

Hope everyone had a great weekend and that you are ready to celebrate tomorrow!  We sure are!  We spent a great weekend with close friends and had a staycation at the beach house.  Actually, I have been here for almost 14 days, which has been WONDERFUL.  My little sister came to visit as well!  So much fun!

For this post, shot in Hilton Head, I am wearing three different outfits featuring my patriotic spirit in red, white and blue.  The first is centered around this ruffle pencil skirt from J. Crew.  Unfortunately, it is now sold out in the chambray but available in other colors.  I fell in love with it and the ruffle down the front.  The tee is French Connection, FTC and this cute paper straw clutch is from Fresh Produce HHI.   The shoes in this post are Marc Fisher, previously featured but linked below.  Featured in this picture is a statue in Hilton Head, featuring "Albert" the gator and Charles Fraser, a real estate developer who helped shape the vision of HHI.  You can read more about it here.

The second outfit is also FTC. The red eyelet top is from J. Crew as well as the seersucker shorts.  These fun shoes are Marc Fisher from last season, (however my sister just found them on eBay!)  My beach bike is from Bike Doctors of Hilton Head.  Love the red and white!!

Last but not least is this cute bell sleeve cut-out top is from BCBGeneration.  My red skinny pants are J. Crew, FTC, previous season.  The Jack Rogers Leopard sandals are always in style and go with so many outfits!  Featured also, are Gracie (our dog) and Tonka (our grand-dog) both Wheaten Terriers.  It was a bit challenging managing both doggies for the shot but as you can see we laughed and sweated our way through it.

I hope you all have a great Fourth of July and that you enjoy this special day with family and friends!  Our country may have many challenges but it represents the home of the free and the brave and we have so much to be grateful for!

As always, thanks for reading and God Bless America!

One of a Kind Jeans

Fashion, Jewelry, LifestyleJan CorrellComment

Hi Friends,

As you may know, my family is everything to me and I count myself one lucky girl that I recently got to spend extra time in Texas, with my daughter and her family. So while there, got to do a bit of sightseeing, which included a visit to Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas.  If you like music like I do, this place is one for the bucket list.  You can read more about it here  but the likes of Loretta Lynn, Willie, Lyle Lovett and Leon Russell are just a few of the artists that have performed there.  A couple years back, my daughter, husband and I did enjoy a band there one evening and a couple of beers....what fun evening.   But this particular day (for the photo shoot), the Bacon Brothers (Kevin Bacon) were playing that night and had just arrived in their motorcoach.  I tried everything to get my kids to go with me... just in case Kevin broke out in a Footloose dance... but it did not work out.  Next time!!

The town of Gruene, just outside New Braunfels, offers a quaint perspective of small town Texas.  Fun shopping, good restaurants and the chance to tube in the cold, clear water of the two local rivers.

For my visit to the one and only Gruene Hall I chose one of a kind jeans.  Who can truly say they have "one of a kind" jeans.  Luckily, some of us can say,"I do!"  These "holy" jeans are from Punkie's Place and feature Our Lady of Guadalupe and serape print fabric! Contact Punkie for adding these awesome jeans to your wardrobe! This black silk blouse is from the closet but find similar in the here.  My espadrilles are Sam Edelman and if you missed them in a previous post, they are super comfy... I would grab them while you still can as they will take you through the fall!  These cool Quay Australia Vivienne Aviator Sunglasses are a wardrobe staple and at this price... I am adding them in Metallic, too!  This snakeskin Hobo clutch is a classic and can compliment any outfit... and after 10 years continues to offer style.  Similar styles below.  Last but not least, the skull bracelet by Tarina Tarantino is over the top! Check out all these items in the gallery at the end of the post!

Even though I did not get to see the Bacon Brothers, every time I go to the New Braunfels area, Gruene Hall will be on the list; good music, good bands and good company!  And maybe, just maybe, I will be footloose!

Until next time and as always, thanks for reading!

Denim Jumpsuits

FashionJan CorrellComment

Hi Friends,

I don't wear jumpsuits very often... do you?   But after purchasing this one I plan to make them a wardrobe staple.  Can we say easy and comfortable? Well yes...we can and let's do! This cute jumpsuit from Chico's is a must for anyone's wardrobe.  The best part is that it is on sale and if you are a signed up for their Passport loyalty program: it provides additional discounts on every purchase.  I mentioned my Sam Edelman espadrilles in a previous post, as being one of my most comfortable pairs of shoes, but felt they worked so well with this outfit, highlighting them again. This exquisite magenta pochette/wallet by Louis Vuitton is the perfect compliment to this outfit and provides the needed "pop" of color.   My bracelet is from TJ Maxx, bought 4 years ago, and is lovingly referred to  as "party on my arm." The earrings are vintage Kendra Scott and in my opinion... should be brought back to the line.

I hope you all are having a fantastic week and can't wait for you to see my next post.  Stay tuned and have a great Friday.

Thanks for reading...till next time!

Magnolia Market

Fashion, Travel, LifestyleJan CorrellComment
Like the magnolia tree,
She bends with the wind,
Trials and tribulation may weather her,
Yet, after the storm her beauty blooms,
See her standing there, like steel,
With her roots forever buried,
Deep in her Southern soil.
— Nancy B Brewer, Letters from Lizzie

Dear Friends,

Last week I visited my daughter's family in New Braunfels, TX and had a wonderful time.  While there, she and I (and two small grandsons) decided to take a side trip to Waco, Texas and Magnolia Market for an overnight. The town of Waco is charming and Magnolia Market is something to see if you like Chip and Jo Jo's style and the show Fixer Upper!

making my mark with my Silver is the New Blonde™ tee

Mr. Silver and I enjoy the show.  It is easy to watch and to get caught in the humor between Chip and Joanna.  Chip has an uncanny way of helping her see the humor in most things... and although widely successful they are rooted in their family, community and life together.  If you have read their story, you are aware of Joanna's strong faith.   Trying to do the right thing as a mother, (independent of religion) and putting your trust in the Lord that you are doing your best for your family and children.  There are so many trials and tribulations as a Mom, most of us can easily associate with her struggles.

Wherever we went the people of Waco were gracious and welcoming, the store was fun, and the crowds were not too bad.  Customer service is pretty spectacular, wherever you are on the property.  My daughter and I found the prices reasonable for the quality.  Not everyone can find treasures like Joanna, so it's great that they provide these items (although mass produced) for the average homeowner.  We both felt that the greenery and silk flowers were very real looking and of extremely high quality.  I would suggest you check them out as I have not seen anything like them before at any of the craft stores.  Especially the tulips!

My awesome new earrings  featured above are Raven +Lilly, bought at the market. Before I left the market three people asked me where I bought them.  They are made of leather and so fun!  I am also wearing white jeans from J. Crew Factory, Clubmaster sunnies from Ray-Ban and my faithful Jack Roger sandals as well as my usual arm candy!

Truly the best part of the trip was spending time with my daughter and grandsons.  Check out the cute pics below.  Of course the last is in the hotel pool!

Suggestions for your trip... don't go in the heat of the summer!  Or if you do, at the very least, don't shower till after!  HA!  Check out the watermelon drinks at Luna Juice Bar.  Pretty awesome! And enjoy lunch at Alpha Omega Grill and Bakery... it was really good!  My one suggestion for Magnolia Market was recycling containers, which they said were in the works!!

PS. If you love my tee as I have heard from so many, know that they will be coming to the blog!  Please check back!!

Thank you for reading and until next time XXOO,

Time for Sun

Hi Friends,

Hope your week is great and that you are gearing up for a fun long weekend.  I am over all this rain we have been having in the Carolina's.  We are headed to the beach and feel that it is time for some sun.  Speaking of time, I recently received this stylish JORD watch.  Are you familiar with them?  If not, you should check them out here! They are hand-crafted wood timepieces and are very cool.  I chose the Frankie 35 in Zebrawood and Navy.  I truly love this watch and it goes with everything in my wardrobe.  Also, JORD watches are offering a contest.  Every person who enters will be entered to win a $100 gift code to use on the JORD site!  One lucky person will win, but everyone will receive a consolation code worth $25 once the contest ends!! Please click here to enter

I really like a quote on their website and found it resonated with me, "moments are bigger than minutes and your watch should tell more than time."  I really agree with this and try to focus on the moments in life and making the most of each one.

Today, I was taking a moment on our front porch with Gracie, our Wheaten Terrier. Gracie truly loves swinging on the front porch enjoying moments with me and Mr. Silver.  In this photo, I am wearing an Adrienne Vittadini dress from Marshalls. Such a fun print for summer.  My shoes are Marc Fisher from Macy's, and my earrings are by Kitzi (made from sheet metal) from Crossings on Main in Ft. Mill.

I hope this weekend, you have lots of fun moments wherever your plans take you. Even if it's sitting on your front porch watching the time pass by.

PS... don't forget to enter the contest mentioned above!  Please click here to enter

As always thanks for reading.

Mod Monday Dresses

FashionJan Correll2 Comments

Hi Friends,

Happy Monday!  I have to say I was so happy for Monday as this past weekend wore me out!  My husband, BIL and I sifted through my in-law's house, where they lived for 60 years.  We were preparing it and the contents for an auction.  The parents are lovely, folks that are now enjoying living in a nice assisted living community. Living through a depression, they saved everything for possible reuse.  Let's just leave it at that... there was a lot to go through!

I hope your weekend was great and that everyone is looking forward to the holiday weekend!!

I recently found two Victoria Beckham dresses at Target on the clearance rack, $21 each.  They have tons of them if you like either one and many additional styles as well. I especially like the orange one! You can't go wrong with a drop waist with a ruffle on the bottom.   I found it interesting that at two different Targets, I heard from Target personnel that the collection tanked and did not last very long before being put on clearance.  I thought the cut and colors were great.  Most of them said they were surprised as well due to customer's continuing to ask for the brand. Refinery 29 published this article about the VB collection highlighting the price discounts. You may still be able to score a great dress or outfit but hurry!!  My shoes are Via Spiga FTC (from the closet) and Bauble Bar earrings.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead and I am sure we will chat again soon!!

As always, thanks for reading!

The Hammitt Bag

FashionJan CorrellComment

Hi Friends,

I had a busy, fun-filled weekend with family.  I attended my neice's college graduation and then spent time with family on Mother's day.  We celebrated my Mom and daughter (virtually) and DIL.  I hope you had a fun weekend too!  This Momma is a bit worn out!

So let's talk about this bag!  Have you ever found a really good deal and feel as though you have won the lottery?  Well, I have to say this deal made me feel like I had.  I have been wanting a Hammitt bag for some time and had been looking for the right one.  They are very good quality and usually only found in boutiques.  I found this beautiful, navy Hammitt bag at TJ Maxx on clearance for less than $100.  I felt as though bells should go off as I checked out!   The bonus was, I needed and had been watching for a nice navy purse.  The detail on the bag is gorgeous and the fact that is it lined with red leather, even inside the pockets, makes it even more special.  So literally, I felt the need to jump for joy!

Although the bag was the focal point of the outfit, I found this cute red Charlotte (CLT) hat at a local boutique in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte called the Cheeky Bean.  They have some fun finds and offer an online shop as well.  I highly suggest checking them out. My white Chuck Taylors (staples) are from Nordstrom's and my jean skirt is vintage Harold's but I have posted similar skirts in the gallery.  The navy blouse is J. Crew and my Aviators by Ray Ban complete the look.

I hope you enjoyed this bag, and this fun, casual look and that you find a similar deal on a Hammitt bag or at the very least... one you love!!

As always, thanks for reading!

Planning Ahead and the Coral Pink Dress

Fashion, JewelryJan Correll1 Comment

Hi Friends,

Happy Monday!  Hope everyone had a restful, fun weekend!  We had a great one!  Kicked it off Friday night, and celebrated Cinco De Mayo with great friends. Our grands visited Saturday and spent the night. Sunday was spent spring cleaning our screened-in porch! Not fun but so glad that the pollen that was coating everything is gone!!

I have a work event this week and planning ahead, decided on this coral pink, silk tunic/dress from Pure Collection.  I love the style of this dress as well as the pretty color. The Coral was last spring's color but their website is still offering it in ivory (on sale). Check it out and the many other options below.  Luckily, my 5'4" height allows me to wear dresses that may be considered a tunic on others.  There are always positives, ladies!

My snakeskin shoes are also FTC (from the closet). When I bought these beauties at Off Saks, I had nothing to go with them.  But since they are classics, knew I would find an outfit, or three or four to wear them. Since the dress is pretty bright, I felt these pumps were a good neutral accessory. The bonus is they are piped in the very coral pink of my dress.  For jewelry, I chose gold Carolee vintage earrings and a matching bracelet to complete the look.

I hope your week goes as smoothly as planning this outfit did.  Have you ever bought a pair of shoes, with no outfit to wear them with?  Can't wait to hear because it was not the first nor last time for me!!

As always, thanks for reading!

Until next time,

The Personalized Beach Cover-Up

FashionJan Correll2 Comments

Hi Friends,

Hope your weekend was great!  After a fun weekend at the beach, I started Monday with the slows.  Well, Monday dragged into Tuesday and I decided to turn it around by making various lists of to do's to get ahead of the rest of the week. Wish me luck!! Anybody else start the week with the slows?

Back to the blog...  I found this pretty Ralph Lauren over-sized shirt last year at Belk on the sale rack and paid under $10 for it.  I felt it would make the best beach cover-up due to the light-weight cotton fabric.  I love the long sleeves, that can be rolled up or down depending on the weather or the sun.  After I got home with it, I decided it needed something.  Being that I like personalization, I took it to my local embroidery boutique but due to the weight of the fabric, they talked me out of it that idea.  Darn!  But they had another... and suggested I use screen printing to put my name on the back.  Well, I had not thought of that, but they assured me it would work great!  We went ahead with the plan and I can tell you I love the result!  In fact, I had three people ask me about the cover-up that very day on the beach.  Of course, I suggested they read about it on the blog!!

Complimenting my new cover-up, this cute fringe beach hat was a fun find at the local Hilton Head TJ Maxx, and under $13.  Whenever I'm at the beach, I always check their racks and usually find a thing or two for the wardrobe.  I also saw several white shirts that could be used as cover-ups.  TJ Maxx never disappoints.

Would love to hear what you have personalized lately?  I have plans  to use Pom-Poms for another beach cover-up soon... so stay tuned~

As always, thanks for reading!

Mimosas and Sundays

Hi Friends,

As you may have noticed, I took a vacation.  It was much needed, am very rested and heart is full after spending time with our children and grands.  Excited to be back!

We took a quick trip to Asheville this weekend and had a great time.  We love the downtown area, Biltmore Village, and all the fabulous breweries.  The West Elm outlet is fun too, if you love a great deal like I do!  The Grand Bohemian Hotel is one of our favorite places to stay.  I highly recommend you check it out!

These fun pictures were taken while enjoying mimosas at the Grand Bohemian. I can literally have a mimosa any day of the week, but Sundays seem fitting... celebrating the week behind, the week ahead and the little bit of weekend left!

This cute tee is from Target by Zoe + Liv.  My adorable black wrap skirt (frayed at the bottom) is by Cloth & Stone purchased at Anthropology (in the sale room.) Similar here.  These black suede espadrilles are Sam Edelman (one of my favorite brands.) My necklace is Roberto Coin (a gift from Mr. Silver), earrings are vintage Kendra Scott, and the matching clear bangle is FTJB (from the jewelry box).

I hope everyone has a fantastic week ahead and that you get the chance to celebrate even life's little moments with a mimosa.  Here is a toast to the week ahead, "cheers lovelies!"

The Most Beautiful Thing You Can Wear is...

Hi Friends,

Hope your weekend was great!  Ours was busy with an Easter Egg hunt for one grand and getting ready for our Texas kids and grands, arriving later this week. The best part is that we will be spending next week, all together; six adults and 4 grands, under the age of 4, in a small beach cottage. Looking forward to lots of belly laughs and time on the beach!!  Mr. Silver and I can't wait.

To finish the subject line, the most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence. Today, my look is all about powering through, and in this case, it was Monday. This was photographed before a big business meeting.  My goal was to look great and exude confidence!  I loved the touch of pink peaking through; blouse from from the closet (FTC) but similar on the gallery. This black and white, tweed jacket is very light weight and is from the closet (FTC).  I have linked an Ann Taylor option, very similar, in the gallery. The black pants are Chico's So Slimming, always a favorite and the jewelry, also from Chico's, is on sale.  These classic black pumps offer the perfect heel!  I also wanted to mention, my favorite pink lipstick, Captive by MAC.

What do you do to get ready for a big event or meeting?  I think pink can be you?

As always, thanks for reading!

Until next time,

Monday, Monday, Mondaze... c'est la vie

Hi Friends,

Hope your weekend was great!  We spent another weekend at the beach, spring cleaning, but still managed to have some fun!!

Here we are at Monday again and like my t-shirt says, c'est la vie.  I found this cute shirt for spring at Nordstrom Rack.  The sweater is from Chico's and was part of last falls collection, but in my opinion, can be worn fall, winter or spring.  The olive green pants are from J. Crew and are such a great fit.  My black suede bag (can you tell I like fringe) is FTC; Ralph Lauren but check out similar in the gallery.  And these great, hoop earrings are from the sale rack at Chico's.

I hope you all have a wonderful week.  I will leave you with a quote I fell in love with over the weekend.

"A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. --James Keller"

Lift someone up, help another and take the time for even a quick smile in passing.
