Ageless Active: My Love of Porches

It’s been a minute since I have written a post but life has truly gotten in the way. At the end of April, we moved from Fort Mill, South Carolina to to Huntersville, North Carolina (in essence south of Charlotte to north of Charlotte). The main reason for the move was to be closer to family. Our son and his family now live seven minutes away and my 87 year old Mom and younger sister live 11 minutes away. After years of driving an hour at times, (to help with my parents, watch a soccer game, visit a lemonade stand and more), we are loving our location and the convenience.

One of my requirements when looking for a home was that we find one with a front porch. I loved our South Carolina home for it’s Southern Front Porch and the fact that we lived across from an open space which gave us a park like feel. Lucky for us, we found a home with a front porch in Huntersville with not only one but two porches, (and across from an open space with access to walking trails.) Mr. Silver refers to our porches as the lower porch and upper porch. I heard one time that when you want to be social, a person should sit on the lower porch but when in need of privacy, you sit on the top porch. I have found that I like to say my prayers on the top porch as so many times, people would walk buy and just being friendly (even early in the morning) would want to chat.

And yes, you might recognize the color of our new home. We loved the colors on our South Carolina home so much, (we repainted less than a year ago), we decided to use the same color scheme on our new home. We chose White Dove for the siding and Revere Pewter for the door and window trim. Both colors are by Benjamin Moore but we always use Sherwin Williams Duration paint both inside and out. Thankfully, the outside is almost done with the exception the landscaping which I am saving till fall.

We have been working on updating the inside of the house, too. And I plan to show you some before and afters once we have some pictures and artwork hung. We have painted the entire inside and painted cabinets, too. We installed Quartz countertops and new lighting. I can’t wait to show you the transformation.

I should also mention that right after our move, we traveled to TX for a week to care for grands, came back and then left for our Italy/Greece trip. We are looking forward to staying put for awhile and our Texas kids arrived last weekend. All the kids enjoying hunting for fireflies and being together with their cousins. (see below). We are all now together at the beach for the Fourth of July and are having a great time.

I have decorated our porches with these fun USA Pleated Fan Flags below, I used the 3x6 size and loved the look and the price (2 for $24). I hung them with command strips which makes them easy to reuse year after year. And I also included the firefly catchers, too. All are linked below and I will earn a small commission if you order.

I also would like to hear your opinion on a blogging subject. Would you like to hear from me more that once or twice a week? I look forward to your comments below.

Have a safe and happy 4th.
